EVERY SOUND DESERVES A NAME.

A beatbox dictionary built by the Offbeat Beijing community — sounds, techniques, and how to actually make them.

About beatbox

Beatbox is music made with the mouth alone: hits, presses, inhales, snaps, flutter-tongues — a trained person can conjure a whole drum section in an afternoon.

This dictionary started from a simple observation: many sounds have no names, so every conversation ends in gestures and descriptions. So we wrote them down — a name, a pronunciation, a way in, and the usual traps.

What you can do here

  • Look up sounds

Filter by airflow, difficulty, type, frequency and articulation to find the one you want to learn.

  • Learn the technique

Each entry breaks down posture, mouth shape, airflow, practice order and common mistakes.

  • Watch a demo

Links to teaching videos — seeing it once beats reading it ten times.

  • Study combos

Chains that stitch several sounds together are recorded here too.
